    About the role#

    This Community Planner Fellow position operates within the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program. You will work alongside community groups, nonprofits, and local governments to plan parks and trails, improve access to natural areas, and create recreation opportunities. The fellowship focuses on supporting existing local projects while offering potential for new project development.

    What you'll do#

    • Support community outreach and engagement efforts with project partners.
    • Facilitate meetings and workshops in both in-person and virtual settings.
    • Participate as part of a team across different stages of planning cycles.
    • Support strategic planning and governance for statewide community garden networks.
    • Provide planning support, concept designs, and implementation for reforestation and food security projects.
    • Conduct research to understand community history, cultural norms, and project contexts.

    What you'll need#

    • United States citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien.
    • At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalency certificate.
    • Valid driver's license for at least 3 years or be at least 21 years old, with a driving record consistent with agency vehicle requirements.
    • Ability to pass an NPS background check.
    • Interest in fields such as urban planning, environmental engineering, history, communications, anthropology, or political science.
    • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

    • Location: Honolulu, Hawaii.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week).
    • Term: Fall 2026 through Summer 2027.
