    About the role#

    This Community Planner Fellow position is part of the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program. You will support community groups, nonprofits, and local governments in planning parks, trails, and river conservation efforts. This is a full-time, paid AmeriCorps service position based in Honolulu, Hawaii.

    What you'll do#

    • Support community outreach and engagement efforts with project partners.
    • Facilitate meetings and workshops in both in-person and virtual settings.
    • Conduct research on project partners, community history, and cultural contexts.
    • Provide strategic planning and governance support for community projects, including a statewide network of community gardens.
    • Assist with project development, including defining project scope, vision, and goals.
    • Participate in site visits and report on project milestones to the regional team.
    • Support specific initiatives such as native dry land forest reforestation and park planning.

    What you'll need#

    • United States citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien.
    • At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalency certificate.
    • Ability to pass an NPS background check.
    • Valid driver's license for at least 3 years or be 21+ years of age.
    • Interest or experience in fields such as Urban Planning, Environmental Engineering, History, Anthropology, Communications, Public Health, or Graphic Design.
    • Strong communication, research, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

    • Location: Honolulu, HI.
    • Term: Full-time service from August 2026 through August 2027.
