About the role#
Clean Harbors is hiring a Receiving Chemist Intern for our Phoenix facility. This internship offers students hands-on experience in environmental services. You will work with field teams and operational leaders to manage hazardous materials and support our safety culture. This is a full-time, on-site role for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Prioritize health and safety by following all safe work practices and OSHA regulations.
- Receive incoming containers, verify counts, and code waste for disposal.
- Sample drums and perform basic chemical analysis.
- Sort and consolidate alkaline batteries for disposal.
- Confirm that drums are coded correctly for billing and routing.
- Assign disposal processes or outbound profiles to drums.
- Move drums from staging areas to storage.
- Complete necessary paperwork while meeting QA/QC guidelines.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a chemistry degree program or a relevant field.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in the environmental services industry.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Forklift experience is preferred but not required.
