About the role#
As a Summer Intern, you will support the safety team in maintaining a safe work environment on heavy civil construction projects. This role provides exposure to construction safety practices, regulatory compliance, and daily field operations. You will work alongside project teams and safety professionals to learn how safety is integrated into project execution.
What you'll do#
- Monitor safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.
- Participate in site walks, inspections, and safety audits to identify and report potential hazards.
- Document safety observations, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and deliver safety toolbox talks and training sessions.
- Review and update site-specific safety plans.
- Learn incident reporting and investigation processes.
- Support the coordination of drug testing and safety certifications.
- Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and crews on safety matters.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Safety Management, Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in safety and heavy civil construction.
- Basic computer skills, with a preference for Microsoft Office experience.
- Reliable transportation to and from project sites.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work in a hands-on, outdoor environment.
