About the role#
As a Summer Intern at Clarkson Construction Company, you will support the estimating team in developing cost proposals and project bids for heavy civil construction projects. This role provides an opportunity to learn how construction costs are developed, gain experience with industry software, and contribute to bid preparation alongside experienced estimators.
What you'll do#
- Assist with quantity takeoffs and preliminary cost estimates by reviewing project drawings, specifications, and documentation.
- Support the bid preparation process by organizing bid documents and compiling subcontractor or vendor quotes.
- Learn to use estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Trimble Bid2Win, Agtek, Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu.
- Research pricing for materials, equipment, and labor.
- Collaborate with project management, engineering, and operations teams to gain exposure to the full project lifecycle.
What you'll need#
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Strong interest in the heavy civil construction industry and an estimating career path.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
