About the role#
The City of High Point Public Services Department is hiring a GIS Intern to assist with municipal asset inventory and infrastructure mapping. You will support the GIS Analyst and GIS Technician with field data collection and database updates for water, sewer, stormwater, and street infrastructure. This role includes four weeks of on-the-job training to help you build professional skills and gain experience in municipal infrastructure management.
What you'll do#
- Collect GPS data and perform photo documentation of public assets.
- Assist with updates to infrastructure maps and GIS databases.
- Organize data and perform document scanning.
- Participate in four weeks of on-the-job training.
- Complete other field-related assignments as needed.
What you'll need#
- Academic training in the use of Geographic Information Systems and knowledge of GIS and GPS.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Comfort using common computer tools like spreadsheets, databases, and word processing programs.
- Ability to work outdoors and navigate uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to ask questions and participate in team discussions.
- Ability to follow guidance from supervisors and team members.
- An interest in working with people and building positive relationships with coworkers.
