About the role#
The San Francisco Chronicle is seeking a photojournalist to join the Visuals team for the Summer 2027 internship program. You will cover a range of assignments including news, features, sports, and visual essays. This role involves making photographs, capturing video, performing initial photo editing, and contributing reporting. You will work 40 hours per week over 12 weeks, from early June to early August, with a schedule that may include weekend coverage. Each intern is assigned a photographer and a photo editor as a mentor.
What you'll do#
- Create informative and visually compelling images on deadline for daily stories.
- Transmit photos and videos remotely from the field.
- Write accurate, concise, and typo-free captions.
- Collaborate closely with editors and reporters on assignments.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a junior, senior, or recent graduate with prior experience at a college news publication or professional news organization.
- A strong online portfolio that includes both still photography and video.
- Keen attention to detail and sound news and ethical judgment.
- Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure.
- An interest in local and community storytelling.
- A current driver's license and a car, or a willingness to use ride-shares or public transportation.
