About the role#
The San Francisco Chronicle is seeking interns for the Summer 2027 term. This program is for students and recent graduates interested in visual, product, and UI/UX design, visual storytelling, and development within a newsroom. You will join a multidisciplinary team of designers, illustrators, and developers working on projects ranging from design systems to immersive longform narratives and investigative reports.
What you'll do#
- Participate in brainstorming and design sprints for newsroom projects.
- Execute assignments through reporting, writing, designing, or coding.
- Communicate with collaborators across the newsroom.
- Manage the production process for your individual projects.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a college junior, senior, or recent graduate.
- Demonstrated interest in journalism or design through coursework or practical experience.
- A basic understanding of HTML and CSS.
- Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, JavaScript, React, or data visualization software is helpful but not required for every candidate.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based in San Francisco, California.
- The role is hybrid, requiring you to work in the office at least three days per week.
- The internship lasts 12 weeks, typically running from June through August or September.
- Interns work 40 hours per week, generally Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with occasional needs for night or weekend work.
