About the role#
The San Francisco Chronicle is hiring a reporter for our breaking news team. This is a paid, 12-week internship for Summer 2027. You will work from the office and in the field to cover a variety of stories including weather, criminal justice, and public health. While breaking news is the focus, you will also have opportunities to work with our data journalism, developer, and audience teams on engagement projects.
What you'll do#
- Report and write breaking news articles on tight deadlines.
- Receive training and mentoring from editors and colleagues across departments.
- Contribute to projects aimed at engaging our audience.
What you'll need#
- Strong writing skills.
- A dedication to accuracy, fairness, and inclusiveness.
- Experience with college publications or previous internships is preferred.
- Majors in Journalism, Communications, or English are encouraged to apply.
Location & details#
- This position is based in San Francisco, California.
- The role is full-time and follows a hybrid schedule.
- Weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required as news warrants.
- This role does not offer sponsorship.
