About the role#
This is a part-time student trainee position at the Caterpillar facility in Pontiac, Illinois. You will work with teams in engineering, quality, maintenance, and production. The role supports the development of fuel system and aftertreatment components. You will contribute to projects focused on safety, quality, and cost while gaining professional experience. This position is for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Analyze data using Microsoft Excel.
- Update work instructions in Microsoft Word.
- Create presentations using Microsoft Power Point.
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to run continuous improvement projects with 6-Sigma tools.
- Communicate clearly with your supervisors and team members.
- Help with new equipment implementation and update machine documentation.
- Document machine locations and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
What you'll need#
- You must be an incoming high school junior or senior for the 2026-2027 school year.
- You need reliable transportation to the Pontiac facility.
- Experience using Microsoft Office software.
- Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks at once.
- The physical ability to lift up to 35 lbs.

- Schedule: Part-time, 10 to 32 hours per week.
