About the role#
As a backend engineer intern on Team Interstellar, you will design, build, and scale core backend services for Capital One Canada. You will write code for production systems that handle high traffic, strict regulatory requirements, and large data transformations. You will gain hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, ETL processes, and modern deployment practices while working alongside product managers and architects.
What you'll do#
- Write backend code to meet story acceptance criteria.
- Build and maintain high-volume APIs and ETL data pipelines.
- Write automated tests and integrate them into deployment pipelines.
- Participate in code reviews, design sessions, and Agile ceremonies.
- Collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders to implement new system features.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program or higher, with an expected graduation date of December 2026 or later.
- Familiarity with backend application development and APIs.
- Experience with backend languages such as Java, TypeScript, or Python.
- Experience with version control technology like Git.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience working with databases or data pipelines.
- Good understanding of testing fundamentals.
- Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills.
- Ability to work within a team setting and actively participate in discussions.

- Location: Toronto, Ontario.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (3 days in the office per week).
- Employment Type: Full time.
- Compensation: $33.33 to $48.72 per hour.
