About the role#
This is an 8-month paid internship for the Summer 2027 term based in Calgary, Alberta. You will join the Oil Sands Regulatory team to work alongside Mining, Environment, and Regulatory professionals. This is an on-site, full-time position requiring a 5-day work week.
What you'll do#
- Support the Regulatory, Environment, and Pathways teams by collecting and filing spatial data.
- Generate application maps and digitize data for environmental projects.
- Manage, review, and organize environmental GIS data.
- Build and maintain GIS models and solutions for specific environmental situations.
- Build project-specific maps in Portal to assist internal teams.
- Use industry software including ArcGIS Map, ArcGIS Pro, FME, and Global Mapper.
- Assist with non-spatial data management using MS Office.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a GIS degree, applied degree, or diploma program.
- A solid understanding of ESRI products, including ArcGIS, Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, and Model Builder.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a collaborative environment.
- Previous field data collection experience using ArcGIS is an asset.
- Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, FME, Python, or AutoCAD is an asset.
- Knowledge of remote sensing methods and data processing, such as LiDAR or Photogrammetry, is an asset.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
Location & details#
- Location: Calgary, Alberta (Head Office).
- Term: 8 months, starting May 2027.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day.
- Benefits: Competitive salary, paid time off during Christmas week, and summer Fridays in July and August.
- Relocation: Students may be eligible for assistance per company policy, but are responsible for finding their own accommodations.
