About the role#
As a Materials Engineering Intern at Mercury Marine, you will support the Materials Engineering team in evaluating materials, components, and manufacturing processes for outboard and stern-drive engines. This hands-on role involves laboratory testing, failure analysis, and inspection methods. You will work alongside engineers and technicians to provide data that informs product quality and engineering decisions.
What you'll do#
- Operate laboratory equipment, including a scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer, and spectrometer.
- Prepare and process test samples using standard laboratory equipment and procedures.
- Produce accurate written documentation and concise reports to summarize test results, data, and conclusions.
- Support the team in evaluating materials and manufacturing processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, or a related Mechanical Engineering Technology program.
- Minimum second-semester sophomore status with at least 48 completed credits.
- Completion of two semesters of classroom laboratory experience in your major.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) from May through August 2027.

- This position is based on-site in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
- This is a paid internship for the Summer 2027 term.
