About the role#
The Boating Intelligence Design Lab is looking for a Computer Graphics Engineering Intern to help build immersive simulations, digital twins, and extended reality (XR) experiences. You will work with game engines and 3D development tools to create realistic virtual environments while integrating real-world marine hardware. This role involves collaborating with engineering, design, and product teams to support product development, testing, and customer engagement.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and maintain immersive simulation, visualization, and training applications using Unreal Engine.
- Build realistic marine environments, vessel simulations, and interactive experiences for product validation and user testing.
- Integrate simulation platforms with physical hardware, including embedded controllers, sensors, displays, and external devices.
- Create, integrate, and optimize 3D assets, animations, visual effects, audio systems, and interactive content.
- Collaborate with software, embedded, UX, and product teams to develop innovative customer and engineering solutions.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Graphics, Game Development, or a related technical field.
- Experience developing applications using Unreal Engine, Unity, or similar real-time 3D development platforms.
- Strong programming skills in C++, C#, Python, or similar languages.
- Understanding of computer graphics fundamentals, such as rendering pipelines, shaders, lighting, materials, and optimization techniques.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

- Location: Champaign, Illinois.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling.
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: $18.00 - $27.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
