    About the role#

As a Development Engineer Co-op, you will work directly with technicians, engineers, and PhD-level scientists to explore material behavior. You will contribute to projects involving liquid metal alloy formulations, protective coatings, and metal-composite laminates. This role provides direct exposure to applied materials science, including hypothesis-driven experimentation, failure analysis, and data interpretation.

    What you'll do#

    • Design and execute experiments to probe fundamental material behavior, such as wetting, adhesion, and thermal transport.
    • Prepare and characterize experimental material samples.
    • Use techniques like thermal metrology, microscopy, spectroscopy, and accelerated reliability testing to analyze materials.
    • Collect and organize data to test hypotheses and support material decisions.
    • Investigate root causes of failure modes, such as corrosion or interfacial degradation, and evaluate potential solutions.
    • Provide general engineering support across the team as project needs shift.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
    • A hands-on disposition and genuine curiosity about material behavior.
    • Ability to work across different tasks, including wet chemistry, sample preparation, and documentation.
    • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data. Mastery of Excel is a plus.
    • Clear, organized technical writing ability.
    • Demonstrated hands-on experience, whether through academic labs, personal projects, or previous work.
    • A safety-conscious, self-directed, and organized approach to work.
    • Interest or coursework in surface chemistry, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, corrosion, or metallurgy is helpful.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Billerica, Massachusetts.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Commitment: Full-time, rolling term.
    • Compensation: Paid position.
    • Note: Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship is not available.
