- Create 3D CAD models and fabrication drawings while iterating based on tolerance stack-ups and thermal budgets.
- Build and test package mockups to verify design feasibility.
- Operate shop equipment including manual and CNC mills and abrasive waterjet cutters to machine parts in-house.
- Assemble and instrument test articles, including sensor placement and fastening.
- Analyze mechanical and thermal test data to inform design decisions.
- Coordinate with vendors and machine shops to source custom parts and manage fabrication schedules.
- Maintain design documentation, drawings, and assembly work instructions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or advanced degree program in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency with a 3D CAD package, with a preference for SolidWorks.
- An interest in learning fabrication drawings, tolerancing, and GD&T.
- Experience or a strong interest in metal fabrication.
- A hands-on approach to problem-solving and a willingness to move between different types of tasks.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to organize and interpret data.
- Clear, effective technical writing skills.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience, whether through academic labs, personal projects, or previous work.
- Coursework or interest in mechanical design, heat transfer, mechanics of materials, or FEA.
- A self-directed, organized, and safety-conscious work style.
Location & details#
