    About the role#

    Bird Construction offers internship and co-op positions designed to give you ownership over a specific area of responsibility. You will work on an active construction project while receiving guidance from a supervisor and technical mentor. We are looking for students to join us for a 4 or 8 month term starting in January 2027.

    What you'll do#

    Your work will span project coordination, field operations, and scheduling. You will:

    • Coordinate drawings and manage specific scopes or trades.
    • Review trade quotes and verify material quantities, hours, and rates.
    • Participate in project meetings and conduct deficiency walks.
    • Update field drawings, produce as-built drawings, and issue warranties.
    • Perform quantity takeoffs and verify site conditions.
    • Supervise sub-trade work and coordinate site activities.
    • Layout site lines and grades using a total station.
    • Maintain project schedules, create manual and graphical schedules, and monitor manpower productivity.
    • Take and organize progress photos and maintain project records.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a Civil, Mechanical, Structural, or Industrial Engineering program.
    • Completion of at least one semester of education following your internship.
    • A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
    • A sense of urgency and a commitment to achieving project goals.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and build positive professional relationships.
    • A valid work permit or Canadian residency.
    • A current transcript must be included with your application.

    Location & details#

    • Locations: Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia.
    • Term: Winter 2027.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Employment: Full-time, paid position.
    • Note: If selected for specific client projects, you may need to complete a pre-employment medical exam or drug and alcohol testing.
