About the role#
This is a paid, full-time summer internship based in Atlanta, Indiana. You will spend the summer gaining hands-on experience in seed production through several learning segments, including plant growth, pathology, entomology, plant nutrition, and weed control. You will also complete a dedicated research project during your time with us.
What you'll do#
- Monitor fields for emergence issues and record stand uniformity and populations.
- Track plant growth and development throughout the growing season.
- Identify common diseases in corn and soybeans and evaluate management options.
- Learn to identify insect life cycles and their impact on crop growth.
- Perform scouting and sampling for insect pests and monitor insect trap levels.
- Participate in soil nitrate and leaf tissue sampling to diagnose nutrient deficiencies.
- Identify weeds and evaluate herbicide effectiveness.
- Participate in the seed corn detasseling process, including recording tassel counts, silk counts, pollen shed, and plant maturities.
- Complete an independent research project related to seed production.
What you'll need#
- Completion of your sophomore year in college.
- Enrollment in a degree program for Agronomy, Crop Science, Ag Systems Management, or Ag Economics.
- A valid driver license and an insurable driving record.
- You should enjoy working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A background in production agriculture, familiarity with agricultural equipment, or a Class A Commercial Driver License are all preferred qualifications.
Location & details#
- Location: Atlanta, Indiana.
- Term: Summer 2027 (early May through early August).
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday, 7:30 AM to Noon (approximately 45 to 60 hours per week).
- Housing: Furnished housing or a stipend is provided. You must provide your own transportation to our facilities.
- Employment is contingent upon passing a drug test and background check.
