About the role#
This is a paid summer internship focused on seed production within the farming industry. You will gain hands-on experience through various learning segments covering plant growth, pathology, entomology, nutrition, and weed control. You will also complete a dedicated research project related to seed production.
What you'll do#
- Monitor fields to track emergence, stand uniformity, and plant development.
- Identify corn and soybean diseases and determine management options.
- Study insect life cycles and participate in the Integrated Pest Management program by monitoring insect traps.
- Collect soil nitrate and leaf tissue samples to diagnose nutrient deficiencies.
- Evaluate herbicide effectiveness and recommend weed management strategies.
- Assist with the detasseling process during pollination by recording tassel and silk counts.
What you'll need#
- Completion of your sophomore year in college.
- Pursuing a degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Ag Systems Management, or Ag Economics.
- A valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- A positive attitude and the ability to work both independently and in teams.
- Preference is given to those with a background in production agriculture, experience with agricultural equipment, or a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Location & details#
- Location: Chillicothe, Ohio.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May through August).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturdays, 7:30 AM to Noon (approximately 45 to 60 hours per week).
- Housing: Furnished housing or a stipend is provided.
- Employment is contingent upon passing a drug test and background check.
