About the role#
Batchelor & Kimball, Inc. is hiring a Mechanical Intern for our Birmingham, Alabama office. This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship with a rolling term. You will work alongside senior engineering staff to support our mechanical contracting projects, gaining experience in both office-based design and field-based construction operations.
What you'll do#
Your work will span two primary areas: preconstruction and project management operations.
- Assist with preconstruction tasks including takeoffs, estimate reviews, and job-site walk-throughs.
- Support the preparation of estimates and proposals.
- Manage submittal and RFI processing.
- Attend project meetings to track action items and notes.
- Assist with vendor and subcontractor management.
- Perform regular field visits to interface with foremen and conduct inspections for schedule, quality, and safety.
- Compile project closeout documents.
- Handle engineering responsibilities such as design, field observation, and document production using AutoCAD or Revit.
- Prepare and deliver an end of assignment presentation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an engineering degree program at an accredited US college or university with a focus on Mechanical Engineering.
- Interest in working within the MEP field.
- Intermediate experience with Access and Excel.
- Strong skills in statistical analysis, research, and communication.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
- A creative and dedicated approach to achieving results.
