About the role#
Avient Corporation is looking for a laboratory intern to join the team at our corporate headquarters. This is a paid, part-time position scheduled for the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms. You will gain hands-on experience in polymer analysis and may have the opportunity to continue the internship through the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Partner with a senior scientist to conduct polymer analysis.
- Use test methods including FT-IR, XRF, thermal analysis, fire science, and physical property testing.
- Follow safety practices while handling chemicals and delicate instrumentation.
- Collaborate with the technology team to understand analysis solutions.
- Respond to internal and external requests as needed.
- Train in various areas of Corporate Technology.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related materials science field.
- Strong laboratory skills and the ability to handle equipment safely.
- Manual dexterity for operating standard lab and office equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing laboratory needs and complete projects on time.
