About the role#
The Application Development & Technical Service (ADTS) Co-op collaborates with local teams to participate in engineering activities. You will gain exposure to Avient technologies and businesses through various rotations. This role involves both in-house application development testing and internal mold trials, as well as traveling to customer facilities for product validation. You will recommend engineered thermoplastics for customer applications and assist in resolving customer complaints.
What you'll do#
- Support application evaluation and material selection.
- Attend process trials for new and existing products.
- Troubleshoot processing problems at customer sites.
- Engage customers regarding quality issues and technical questions.
- Create literature for product part design, mold design, and processing.
- Develop presentations and provide training on design and processing to customers.
- Interpret and analyze customer part drawings, mold filling simulations, and elemental analysis.
- Provide support to internal departments including Sales, Product Management, Technology, and Manufacturing.
- Build familiarity with current and legacy product portfolios.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelors program for Plastics Engineering or a related field.
- At least 1 year of related experience, including previous internships or co-ops.
- Strong skills in injection molding or extrusion processing.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, Moldflow, and Finite Element Analysis software.
- Ability to interpret Technical Data Sheets (TDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to non-technical functions.
- Experience with blow molding or thermoforming is a plus, as is being bi-lingual in Spanish.
