About the role#
The Engineering Co-Op is an entry level production and process engineering position for students who have finished their second year of studies. You will complete three full rotations at different Avient operations. Each rotation offers exposure to different business segments, with potential opportunities to work in corporate functions like EHS or R&D. You will receive mentorship from senior manufacturing personnel and report your progress to senior management each semester. This program focuses on building leadership and technical capabilities through hands-on manufacturing experience.
What you'll do#
- Carry out process engineering projects based on operational needs and your interests.
- Work on projects independently with mentor support and as part of functional teams.
- Resolve EHS, quality, and customer complaint issues.
- Improve operations through rate increases, changeover reduction, yield improvements, and waste elimination.
- Manage small capital projects including equipment specification, ROI justification, and installation oversight.
- Observe all Safety, Health, and Environmental rules and guidelines.
- Support the vision, mission, and guiding principles of the company.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Industrial, Mechanical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering, Business Administration, Operations Management, or Kinesiology.
- At least 1 year of experience is preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend technical instructions, safety rules, and procedure manuals in English.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
- Strong reasoning and critical thinking skills.
- Awareness of LSS and lean manufacturing is an asset.
- Manual dexterity to operate small hand tools, scales, and machinery.
