About the role#
As a Forestry Intern at Arizona Public Service, you will support the safe and reliable delivery of energy by contributing to vegetation management across the Phoenix Metro area. This position provides hands-on experience in environmental stewardship and utility operations while helping reduce vegetation-related risks near electrical infrastructure. This is a full-time, paid, 10-week summer internship.
What you'll do#
- Collect, analyze, and maintain data to support vegetation management projects.
- Engage with customers and communities to explain the benefits of vegetation management.
- Participate in field visits to support forestry and resource management activities.
- Collaborate with teams across operations, communications, land management, and government affairs.
- Perform simple to intermediate analysis and designs.
- Assist in preparing business and engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and evaluations.
- Conduct research, technical reviews, and summarize findings in reports or presentations.
- Use internal resources to learn about business and engineering operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in Forestry or a related field.
- A commitment to academic achievement and learning.
- A valid driver's license.
- Comfort working outdoors in varying weather and field conditions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
- Exposure to or interest in learning GIS mapping and software.
- A 3.0 GPA or higher is preferred.
Location & details#
- This role is based on-site in Phoenix, Arizona.
- You will work outdoors in various field conditions and may be exposed to terrain, insects, and other environmental factors common to utility work sites.
