About the role#
As an Environmental Intern, you will support projects that balance reliable energy delivery with environmental responsibility. You will work alongside environmental professionals to gain hands-on experience in permitting, compliance, and sustainability initiatives that protect natural resources and support the communities served by Arizona Public Service.
What you'll do#
- Partner with environmental professionals on projects involving environmental permitting, compliance assurance, and operational support for utility infrastructure.
- Participate in field visits and construction site inspections to learn how environmental requirements are implemented in the field.
- Analyze environmental data and research federal, state, and local regulatory requirements to develop recommendations for permitting strategies and compliance obligations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across engineering, construction, and operations to support project development.
- Contribute to environmental initiatives involving air quality permitting, hazardous waste compliance, spill prevention, pollution control, and environmental planning.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program with a record of continued academic achievement.
- Pursuing studies in Environmental Science, Biology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Policy, Pre-Law, or a related scientific or technical field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Collaborative, curious, and eager to learn from both field and office-based experiences.
- Interest in environmental stewardship, sustainability, environmental compliance, and construction.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is based in Phoenix, Arizona.
- This position follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation to work approximately 40% of the time in-person at an office or field location.
