    About the role#

    As a Transmission and Distribution Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the systems that deliver electricity to homes, businesses, and communities across Arizona. You will work alongside experienced engineers to maintain, improve, and modernize critical electrical infrastructure. This is a paid, full-time summer internship for 2027.

    What you'll do#

    • Collaborate with engineers on projects supporting the design, planning, and operation of transmission and distribution systems.
    • Perform simple to intermediate analysis and designs.
    • Assist in preparing business and engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, and studies.
    • Analyze technical data to help develop solutions that improve the reliability and performance of electrical infrastructure.
    • Participate in research, engineering studies, and technical reviews.
    • Present your findings through written reports or oral presentations.
    • Work with professionals across multiple engineering disciplines to support project goals.
    • Visit project sites to see how engineering concepts apply to real-world utility operations.
    • Conduct investigations and verify results.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
    • A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • Coursework or knowledge related to power systems engineering, transmission and distribution systems, load flow analysis, or protective relaying.
    • Analytical thinking skills and an interest in solving technical problems.
    • Strong communication skills to share ideas and findings clearly.
    • A commitment to learning and professional growth.
    • Ability to meet U.S. person requirements for export control compliance.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Phoenix, Arizona.
    • Modality: Hybrid. Employees work approximately 40% of their time in-person at an APS location and the remainder from a home office.
    • Residency: Employees are expected to reside in Arizona.
