About the role#
As a Real-Time Controls Intern, you will help develop the software that enables our humanoid robot, Apollo, to move and interact with the world. You will work within the Real-Time Controls team to build and test software layers that bridge high-level commands with physical hardware execution. This role is for a student or researcher who wants to apply their knowledge of physics and programming to a production-grade robot.
What you'll do#
- Support the development and testing of real-time C++ software modules for robot motion.
- Assist in integrating sensor data and firmware feedback into core control loops.
- Implement and validate mathematical models used for robot limb positioning and movement.
- Build software interfaces that translate high-level behavioral goals into executable robot tasks.
- Gather and analyze performance data from physical hardware and simulation environments.
- Write unit tests and maintain documentation for software features.
- Participate in team code reviews and collaborative, agile development processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a BS, MS, or PhD program in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Foundational understanding of Modern C++.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, automation, or testing.
- Solid understanding of Newtonian physics and linear algebra.
- Familiarity with robot components like actuators, encoders, and IMUs.
- Experience with Git and working in a Linux environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Relevant experience through personal projects or academic research focused on robotics, motion, or physical simulation.
