About the role#
Public Safety Aides assist the Office of Parking and Commuter Services with campus operations. This part-time role offers students a chance to learn about campus services, interact with university administrators, and support security efforts. This position is open to incoming and current American University students.
What you'll do#
- Enforce parking policies across all campus properties.
- Conduct parking enforcement patrols and perform office tasks.
- Direct traffic and staff special events, including Commencement and Move-In.
- Provide customer service to guests and campus community members.
- Maintain communication with supervisors using radios and phones.
- Support the American University Police Department as needed.
- Represent the PSA program and the university professionally.
What you'll need#
- Status as an incoming or current American University student.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Strong customer service skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
- Capacity to handle challenging situations.
- Experience with iPhone-based applications and handheld radios.
- Ability to complete all new hire paperwork and pass initial training.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, DC.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Hours: 9 to 15 hours per week, with availability required between 8 am and 10 pm on weekdays and weekends.
- Term: Rolling.
