About the role#
The Digital Communication Assistant joins the School of Communication marketing team. You will help promote the school to internal and external audiences by highlighting our students, faculty, and degree programs. This is a part-time position requiring 10 hours of work per week.
What you'll do#
- Assist with planning and creating social media campaigns.
- Develop original content for social media, including text, graphics, and short-form video.
- Draft news content for the website, such as announcements and profiles.
- Use Hootsuite to pull monthly reports on social media metrics.
- Update the school website using the university content management system.
- Track website traffic and user trends using Google Analytics 4.
- Help produce newsletters for students, alumni, and the broader community.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at American University.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with social media copywriting and management, specifically Instagram and LinkedIn.
- Familiarity with content management systems and basic HTML.
- Experience using Google Analytics 4 or similar web tools.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite for design and video editing is a plus.
- Experience reporting on social media metrics is preferred.

- Pay: $18.40 per hour.
