About the role#
BrightEdge is the innovation and venture capital arm of the American Cancer Society. We invest in early-stage companies creating cancer-focused therapeutics, diagnostics, and health technologies. As a Venture Fellow, you will support our investment team by conducting diligence on prospective companies and contributing to our investment decisions. This position requires 10 hours of work per week.
What you'll do#
- Support investment diligence by collecting data and reviewing scientific literature, clinical data, and intellectual property.
- Analyze competitive landscapes and industry trends to inform our strategy.
- Synthesize your findings into clear reports and presentations for the investment team.
- Develop focused investment theses in areas that align with BrightEdge priorities.
- Create watch lists of emerging oncology companies.
- Help plan and coordinate BrightEdge events, including managing logistics and preparing materials.
- Participate in regular pipeline reviews and investment meetings.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree is required. You should be actively pursuing an advanced degree like a Master’s, PhD, or MD in an oncology-related field.
- A deep technical background in life sciences or healthcare technologies, including a strong understanding of cancer biology.
- Strong analytical and evaluative thinking skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
- A self-starting mindset capable of driving work without much oversight.
- Flexibility and comfort with change or ambiguity.
- A team-oriented approach and an entrepreneurial drive for biomedical innovation.
- Prior business experience in a startup or innovation setting is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a remote, part-time position.
- The pay rate is $35 to $40 per hour.
- We are hiring for a rolling term.
