About the role#
ADEC is expanding its Community Employment program at Elkhart Community Schools. We are hiring a Student Career Development Specialist to help students prepare for life after high school. You will work with students, families, educators, and local employers to guide the transition from school to employment or further education.
What you'll do#
- Conduct job exploration counseling and assessments to identify student interests, skills, and needs.
- Help students review the local labor market and explore various career pathways.
- Create and implement individualized pre-employment transition plans.
- Teach workplace readiness skills such as communication, problem solving, and independent living.
- Support students in learning self-advocacy.
- Coordinate with schools, vocational rehabilitation agencies, and employers to set up job shadows, internships, and informational interviews.
- Assist students with the transition to post-school environments, including college tours and connecting with community resources.
What you'll need#
- A degree in a related field like psychology, social work, or special education is preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
- Experience in vocational rehabilitation or transition services is preferred.
- Experience working with youth is preferred.
- Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.

- This position is located in Elkhart, Indiana.
- This is a full-time, on-site role.
- The position is paid and follows a rolling term.
