About the role#
The SCOTUS Docket team supports the ACLU National Legal Director in managing litigation before the United States Supreme Court. This includes work on merits cases, petitions for certiorari, and amicus briefs. As an intern, you will assist with research, strategy, and administrative tasks across various issue areas such as voting rights, LGBTQ rights, immigration, and free speech.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal and factual research on the Supreme Court docket.
- Draft briefs and develop legal arguments.
- Assist with long-term planning and strategy projects.
- Edit and produce internal memorandums and case trackers.
- Conduct archival research regarding the history of the ACLU at the Supreme Court.
- Support attorneys and paralegals with document management and memo production.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student, with preference for those who have completed their first year.
- Strong research, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage time effectively and see projects through to completion.
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, and racial justice.
- Kindness, humility, and a collaborative approach to work.
Location & details#
- Location: Remote or hybrid, with the option to be based in the New York, NY office.
- Residency: Must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.
- Term: Winter 2027 (starting January 11 or January 25).
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship offered for course credit only. It must be tied to your formal education program.
