About the role#
The National Security Project at the ACLU seeks an undergraduate intern for the summer of 2027. This role supports our litigation and advocacy efforts regarding government policies, civil liberties, and human rights. You will work within a team that challenges government overreach and works to ensure constitutional compliance. This is a full-time position requiring 35 hours per week for 10 consecutive weeks.
What you'll do#
- Review and log government documents into project databases.
- Organize and archive case files.
- Conduct factual research to support ongoing advocacy.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student with at least three years of coursework completed.
- A strong interest in human rights and civil liberties.
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer and web-based research tools.
- Strong organizational skills and the initiative to complete projects independently.
- Experience working with historically marginalized communities is preferred.
- A commitment to equity, inclusion, and collaborative work.
Location & details#
- This position is based in New York, NY, with remote or hybrid options available.
- The internship is paid at a rate of $24 per hour.
- Start dates are available on May 24 or June 7, 2027.
- Applicants must be based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
