    About the role#

    The ACLU is seeking a full-time Legal Intern for the SCOTUS Docket within our National Office. This role supports the National Legal Director in overseeing litigation, petitions for certiorari, and amicus work before the United States Supreme Court. You will report to the staff attorney managing the Supreme Court docket.

    What you'll do#

    • Conduct legal research and analysis to support new and active litigation projects.
    • Aid in drafting legal memoranda, motions, and briefs.
    • Provide support to ACLU affiliates and cooperating attorneys.
    • Assist with long-term planning and strategy projects.
    • Gain exposure to advocacy strategy development and coalition management for cases heading to the Supreme Court.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in law school, having completed your 1L year before the internship starts.
    • Excellent research, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Ability to conduct complex legal analysis and see projects through to completion.
    • Demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, and racial justice.
    • Kindness, generosity, and humility.
    • Preference for experience drafting briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court or familiarity with Section 1983, immigration, LGBTQ rights, free speech, administrative, national security, or structural constitutional law.

    Location & details#

    • This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
    • The role is available as remote or hybrid, with office options in New York, NY, or San Francisco, CA.
    • You must be based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
