    About the role#

    The William J. Brennan Fellowship is a full-time, two-year position within the Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project at the ACLU National office. This fellowship is designed to provide early-career training and experience in First and Fourth Amendment advocacy. The fellow will work as an integral part of the project team on a wide-ranging docket of cases involving freedom of expression, digital privacy, and the civil liberties impact of new technologies.

    What you'll do#

    • Participate in litigation at all levels of federal and state courts, including conducting legal and factual research, interviewing clients, and drafting briefs and pleadings.
    • Assist in drafting amicus curiae briefs.
    • Provide support for affiliate litigation and contribute to legislative and policy work.
    • Advance policy goals through public education and participation in coalitions.
    • Help manage the summer legal internship program and supervise student interns.
    • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned.

    What you'll need#

    • A J.D. degree or an expectation of receiving one by Spring 2027.
    • A commitment to the mission of the ACLU.
    • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
    • A demonstrated commitment to diversity and the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully to resolve conflicts.
