About the role#
Substation Field Engineering provides technical support for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of SPS substations. You will work alongside experienced engineering professionals to support the replacement, repair, and modernization of critical equipment. This role is based in Amarillo and involves exposure to substation design, testing, and field operations.
What you'll do#
- Support engineers in the execution of substation capital and maintenance projects.
- Develop proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Assist with troubleshooting substation equipment and evaluating corrective actions.
- Review equipment test results and assess equipment condition and performance.
- Manage assigned small-scope engineering projects from planning through completion.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a freshman or higher in an ABET accredited college or university.
- Pursuing a degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established standards and guidance.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly.
Location & details#
- Location: Amarillo, Texas.
- Term: Summer 2027, with a start date of May 24, 2027.
- Modality: Hybrid work policy applies.
- Schedule: Full-time during the summer, up to 40 hours per week.
- Travel: Frequent day travel is required, with rare overnight travel for specific projects.
- Compensation: $19.30 to $24.60 per hour.
