About the role#
As a Software Application Development Engineer Intern, you will join a business unit to build features that directly impact the Workday product. You will spend your summer immersed in our development practices and gain hands-on experience across the full software development lifecycle, from analysis and design to implementation. This role allows you to apply your Object-Oriented Programming skills to build scalable applications while collaborating with developers and product managers.
What you'll do#
- Join daily standups, planning sessions, grooming, and retrospectives to contribute to how the team plans and delivers work.
- Take on tasks from the team backlog with guidance from your mentor.
- Collaborate through design docs, tickets, pull requests, and code reviews.
- Build and deliver small to medium features or enhancements across services, UI, or platform components.
- Maintain quality by writing tests, fixing bugs, and improving internal tooling and automation.
- Learn and work within the team tech stack, including languages, frameworks, build tools, and deployment pipelines.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- An anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Less than 12 months of previous professional work experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming principles, including encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, and abstraction.
- Understanding of Object-Oriented Design practices and UML design.
- Experience with at least one OOP language such as Java, Python, C++, or JavaScript.
- Knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms.
- Familiarity with REST concepts, AI tooling, and technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, MySQL, Git, or React.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
