About the role#
Wood is hiring a Technical Safety Engineering Student for the Winter 2027 semester. You will work in our St. John's office on large-scale brownfield projects across the energy, mining, and hydro sectors. Technical Safety involves engineering assessment and design for fire protection, gas detection, and escape and rescue systems, alongside risk management.
What you'll do#
- Provide engineering support within the Technical Safety group.
- Create documentation, including design drawings, technical specifications, data sheets, and reports.
- Manage project schedules and budgets to ensure they are met.
- Coordinate with third-party contractors and vendors to procure materials and equipment.
- Complete Bills of Materials for material and service procurement.
- Populate engineering database deliverables for project closeouts and manage the closure of technical safety recommendations.
- Work in a multidiscipline environment to complete large-scale projects.
- Follow all HSEQ requirements according to company procedures and management systems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a university engineering co-op program.
- Excellent verbal, written, and technical writing skills.
- Strong relationship management skills and the ability to interact with multidiscipline personnel.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while managing multiple, conflicting priorities.
- A team-focused attitude and commitment to quality.
- Innovative problem-solving mindset and a strong safety orientation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
