About the role#
The Electrical Engineer Intern supports the technical direction and design of systems across all MARS facilities. You will work on hands-on projects that apply your academic background to real-world engineering challenges. This position requires a professional approach to confidential information and the ability to work in both office and field environments.
What you'll do#
- Assist in design and system reviews to verify compliance with national codes and standards.
- Verify that system performance meets requested needs and operating parameters.
- Collaborate with customers to develop requirements.
- Work with the Operations and Maintenance team to perform system activation and initial data analysis.
- Perform system fine tuning and assist with root cause analysis for non-conformances.
- Develop and review drawing packages and engineering documentation, including technical calculations.
- Assist in creating task plans that cover budget, schedule, and performance criteria.
- Participate in field inspections to assess conformance with design and operational requirements.
- Develop solutions for issues related to engineered systems.
- Maintain compliance with management, quality, and safety policies.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment or acceptance in an accredited educational institution on at least a half-time basis.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (rising seniors preferred).
- A comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering basics and a willingness to learn complex power and control systems.
- Familiarity with system design, construction, activation, and operation.
- Experience with electrical diagram design using AutoCAD or similar software.
- Proficiency in electrical power system calculations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
- A valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a NASA credential.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
- Hands-on experience with electrical circuit builds from labs or hobbies and SharePoint experience are preferred.
