About the role#
As a Product Design Mechanical Engineer intern, you will contribute to the design and development of new cameras, access control systems, sensors, and other enterprise IoT products. You will own aspects of mechanical design from prototype to mass production. This is a full-time, on-site role based in San Mateo, California.
What you'll do#
- Take ownership of products from concept through mass production.
- Prototype and analyze mechanical systems to meet product requirements like thermal performance, sealing, and tamper resistance.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers and industrial designers.
- Design parts for mass manufacturing while dialing in DFM and DFA.
- Lead validation testing and steer overseas vendor collaboration.
- Gain experience with tooling bring-up and part inspection.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a graduation year of 2027 or 2028.
- Availability for a Winter 2027 co-op.
- Understanding of strength of materials, thermodynamics, and manufacturing.
- Experience with 3D CAD software.
- Experience with rapid prototyping, building, and testing hardware.
- A focus on user-centric design and a startup mindset.
