About the role#
The Accelerator Reference Design (ARD) team designs and delivers production-quality accelerator modules for custom AI silicon. You will join this team to run structural simulations that guide the mechanical design of high-power, liquid-cooled modules. You will work alongside mechanical, thermal, packaging, and electrical engineers.
What you'll do#
- Build, mesh, and run structural FEA models in ANSYS for accelerator modules, PCBs, and hardware like stiffeners and cold plates.
- Evaluate stress, strain, and deflection by simulating mounting, preload, assembly, gravity, and handling loads.
- Run warpage simulations for bare boards, populated boards, and full assemblies at room and elevated temperatures.
- Conduct design-of-experiment and parametric studies to support design trade-offs.
- Correlate simulation results with lab test data, such as shadow moiré or strain gauge readings, to refine models.
- Document assumptions and results in reports to present findings to the ARD team.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with ANSYS for structural FEA.
- A solid foundation in solid mechanics, strength of materials, and material behavior.
- Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.
- Experience with thermo-mechanical, warpage, or composite modeling.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD, specifically Creo or SolidWorks, for geometry cleanup.
- Scripting or automation experience using Python or APDL.
- Ability to bring ECAD/MCAD data into FEA models.
- Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
- Must obtain and maintain work authorization in the United States.
Location & details#
- Location: Menlo Park, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling.
- Compensation: $6,688 to $11,880 per month.
