About the role#
The Access Coordinator works within Student Disability Services to facilitate equitable access for students. You will manage a caseload of students, guide them through the accommodation process, and serve as a resource for the broader campus community. This role involves balancing individual student support with administrative responsibilities and educational outreach.
What you'll do#
- Communicate with prospective students and families about the registration process.
- Assess accommodation requests and engage students in an interactive process to develop plans.
- Review medical, psychological, and educational documentation to determine appropriate services.
- Document student interactions in the database management system.
- Collaborate with University departments and SDS functional areas to support students.
- Develop and present training programs on disability issues for instructors, staff, and students.
- Assist with the Peer Mentor Program and other support initiatives.
- Collect data for reports and conduct assessments of service delivery.
- Stay informed on Office for Civil Rights case files and contribute to internal policies.
- Oversee and coordinate tasks for graduate interns.
What you'll need#
- A Master’s degree, or a Bachelor's degree combined with 3 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- At least one year of professional experience working with individuals with disabilities, including experience evaluating disability documentation.
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Fair Housing Act.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with FERPA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong skills in communication, prioritization, and analyzing complex situations.
- Three years of professional experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site position based in Knoxville, Tennessee.
- The starting salary for candidates meeting minimum requirements is $47,000.
- This role does not offer visa sponsorship.
