About the role#
The State Controller's Office is hiring four student assistants to support the Unclaimed Property Division. You will assist in the evaluation of claims to identify rightful owners and help manage financial property. This is a part-time, temporary position that provides exposure to government operations and professional office procedures.
What you'll do#
- Research unclaimed property information and review individual claims.
- Perform data analysis and interpret relevant laws or regulations.
- Make ownership determinations based on your research and evaluation.
- Respond to public inquiries and provide information to resolve claims.
- Work in cross-functional teams to complete special projects.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to build professional relationships.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at an accredited college or university.
- Minimum unit load of 12 units for undergraduates or 8 units for graduate students.
- A declared major in Communications, Accounting, Computer Science, Business Administration, Auditing, or Data Science.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Strong communication skills, including active listening and the ability to write clear reports and emails.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to analyze data and draw conclusions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to handle changing priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Knowledge of public administration principles is helpful.
Location & details#
- This role is located in Sacramento, California.
- Work is performed on-site.
- This is a non-benefited, part-time position.
- You must reside in California for the duration of your employment.
- Work hours are generally Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM.
