About the role#
As a Government Affairs Co-op, you will work with the Investor Relations, Strategic Operations, Risk Management, and Corporate Real Estate departments at United Therapeutics. You will support our engagement with local, state, federal, and international governments. This role involves tracking policy, managing regulatory issues, and preparing materials for meetings and briefings. This is a full-time, paid, six-month position based on-site in Silver Spring.
What you'll do#
- Research upcoming legislation that could affect the company and our patients.
- Maintain and expand our use of legislation tracking software.
- Analyze legislation and summarize potential effects for internal stakeholders.
- Travel to company locations across the country to engage with lobbyists and local partners.
- Monitor and report on the political and regulatory environment.
- Advocate for the company through relationship-building activities.
- Detail policy agendas to help reach advocacy goals.
- Attend meetings to gain insight from stakeholders and government officials.
- Travel to conferences and stakeholder gatherings to represent the team.
- Update reporting obligations for local, state, and federal governments.
- Support policy development in compliance with emerging regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of official documents, reports, and memos.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program, or enrollment in an MPP, MPH, or JD program.
- Interest in government affairs, policy, advocacy, health policy, life sciences, and biotechnology.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Preferred majors include Natural Sciences, Economics, Public Policy, History, Pre-Law, or Political Science.
- Prior experience in government affairs, campaigns, or a related field is a plus.
