About the role#
The Social Media Intern supports the Branding, Marketing, and Communications team at UNCF. This role focuses on developing, scheduling, and monitoring digital content to strengthen the organization's online presence. You will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit communications while highlighting the work of HBCUs, students, and organizational programs. This is an unpaid internship for Fall 2026, offering academic course credit.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the development and maintenance of the social media content calendar.
- Schedule approved content across various social media platforms.
- Create social media graphics using approved templates and brand guidelines.
- Draft and edit captions and other short-form digital content.
- Research trends in higher education, student success, and HBCU culture.
- Monitor member institutions for news, events, and stories to amplify.
- Support campaigns for UNCF events and organizational initiatives.
- Assist with basic performance tracking and reporting.
- Collaborate with team members in creative services and digital communications.
- Lead a final capstone project and deliver a presentation to stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university, with preference for juniors, seniors, or graduate students.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Demonstrated interest in marketing, public relations, or digital communications.
- Proficiency in Canva and experience creating visual content.
- Strong research, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High attention to detail and sound professional judgment.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, DC (On-site).
- Schedule: 21 hours per week, with core hours Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
- Availability: Must be available for occasional evening and weekend events.
- Majors: Marketing, Communications, or Media Studies.
- Compensation: Unpaid; academic credit is available.
