    About the role#

U.S. Bridge is seeking a motivated intern to join the Engineering and Drafting team for a hands-on experience in steel bridge fabrication. This mentored position involves rotating through engineering and drafting departments to build an understanding of how a bridge moves from initial drawings to finished steel. Interns will contribute to live projects while working alongside experienced engineers, drafters, and shop personnel.

    What you'll do#

    • Tour the fabrication shop to observe CNC machines, drills, saws, and overall shop workflow.
    • Learn industry terminology including floor beams, stringers, trusses, connections, splices, and copes.
    • Meet with the team to understand how plans become detailed shop drawings and gain an overview of the project lifecycle from bid proposal to shipping.
    • Review shop drawings against contract documents to identify key components.
    • Assist drafters with releasing shop drawings and related documentation.
    • Support engineers with routine calculations and checks, such as bolt counts, paint area, and pay weight summaries.
    • Sit in on project meetings, take notes, and help organize project documentation.
    • Spend time in the shop connecting drawings to physical steel and learning basic weld symbols.
    • Track one or two active projects as a supporting team member through the detailing and fabrication stages.
    • Maintain a journal documenting resources and processes learned.

    What you'll need#

    • Current pursuit of a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
    • Strong attention to detail, as engineering accuracy is essential for safety.
    • A proactive and curious mindset with comfort asking questions to understand the reasoning behind tasks.
    • A genuine interest in structural steel fabrication and the bridge industry.
    • Willingness to split time between the shop floor and a desk.
    • Strong communication skills and comfort working across different departments.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Cambridge, Ohio.
    • Term: Rolling.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Status: Full-time and paid.
