About the role#
As a Safety Intern, you will support the implementation of the Building L.I.F.E. (Living Injury Free Everyday) program and other project safety initiatives. You will work on-site at construction projects or office locations under the direction of a supervisor to ensure compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
What you'll do#
- Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices, prioritizing situations that pose an imminent danger to life or property.
- Coordinate safety duties for committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings.
- Review subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance.
- Maintain critical safety records, including pre-task plans, Job Hazard Analyses, training records, OSHA 300 logs, and chemical inventory sheets.
- Assist with conducting jobsite inspections and developing inspection summaries.
- Support worker orientation programs and the administration of drug screening programs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Nursing, Public Health, or a related field, with at least one year of completed education.
- Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques.
- A strong desire to work in construction management and learn about the industry.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, such as student leadership, volunteerism, or community involvement.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, with high attention to detail.
- Ability to perform physical tasks on construction sites, including climbing stairs and ladders, and navigating work areas.
