Safety Intern

About the role#

The Safety Intern will support the implementation of the Building L.I.F.E. (Living Injury Free Everyday) program and other project safety initiatives. Working under the direction of a supervisor, you will gain hands-on experience in construction safety management at either a project site or office location.

What you'll do#

• Assist with identifying and reporting safety violations or unsafe practices, with a specific focus on imminent dangers to life or property.
• Coordinate safety duties for committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings.
• Review subcontractor safety programs to ensure completeness and compliance with company policies.
• Maintain essential safety records, including Job Hazard Analyses, training logs, OSHA 300 logs, and chemical inventory sheets.
• Support the administration of drug screening programs and conduct worker orientations for new employees.
• Perform jobsite and work area inspections to help develop inspection summaries.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in an accredited degree program (Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field) with at least one year of completed coursework.
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills, such as student leadership or community involvement.
• A desire to learn about the construction industry and construction management.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data entry tools.
