About the role#
The Medical Assistant Intern at SouthPark Gastroenterology supports the clinical team while gaining hands-on experience in a medical setting. This is a full-time, on-site position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. The role involves assisting with patient care, documentation, and care coordination to ensure seamless service delivery.
What you'll do#
- Escort patients to exam and procedure rooms while collecting medical history and symptoms.
- Measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
- Assist patients with walking transfers, dressing, and specimen collection.
- Assemble and organize patient health information, including lab results, exam reports, and treatment plans, within the electronic health record.
- Communicate with physicians and healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses and coordinate care.
- Administer injections following the completion of required company training and certification.
- Perform physical examination preparations and document all information in patient charts.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or a degree from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program with a focus on medicine, ideally on track for medical school or a Physician Assistant program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS Certification.
- Ability to complete required online and in-person vaccination administration training.
- Completion of Hepatitis B and flu vaccination forms or submission of declination forms, as well as completion of a TB test.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including walking, standing, and lifting up to 35 pounds.
