About the role#
The Medical Assistant Intern will support the Gastroenterology team at SouthPark. This full-time, paid internship provides hands-on experience in a clinical setting, including exposure to laboratory services, care coordination, and document management. The role operates Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
What you'll do#
- Escort patients to exam rooms and procedure rooms.
- Measure and document vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
- Collect patient history, perform screenings, and prepare patients for physical examinations.
- Assist patients with walking transfers, dressing, and collecting specimens.
- Assemble and organize patient health information, including medical history, exam results, lab tests, and treatment plans.
- Ensure all necessary reports and records are available in the electronic health record prior to appointments.
- Communicate with physicians and healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses or obtain information.
- Administer injections following the completion of Tryon training certification.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or a degree from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program with a focus on medicine.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS Certification.
- Ability to complete required online and in-person vaccination administration training.
- Completion of Hepatitis B and Flu vaccine documentation (or declination form) and a TB test.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including walking, standing, sitting, lifting up to 35 pounds, and reaching.
