About the role#
The Medical Assistant Intern supports the SouthPark Primary Care team in a full-time, paid capacity. This role offers hands-on experience in a clinical setting, including exposure to primary care services, laboratory tasks, and care coordination. You will work Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
What you'll do#
- Escort patients to exam rooms and procedure areas.
- Interview patients to collect medical history and measure vital signs.
- Prepare patients for physical examinations and assist with walking transfers, dressing, or specimen collection.
- Document patient information in the electronic health record (EHR) and ensure all forms are complete and signed.
- Assemble health information, such as lab tests, X-ray reports, and diagnoses, to ensure records are ready for appointments.
- Communicate with physicians and other health care professionals to clarify diagnoses or obtain records.
- Administer injections once you have completed the required training certification.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or a degree from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program with a focus on medicine.
- Current status as a student on track to return to medical school or complete a Physician Assistant program.
- Ability to maintain American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification.
- Completion of a TB test and documentation for Hepatitis B and Flu vaccinations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work without supervision.
- Ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds and perform physical tasks like standing, walking, and reaching.
