About the role#
The John Deere Tech Student position is a two-year educational and professional program designed to prepare individuals for a career as a service mechanic at a John Deere dealership. This role combines on-the-job training at the dealership with an accredited associate degree program at a participating college. Participants gain hands-on experience in equipment maintenance and diagnostics while working toward certification in key technical areas.
What you'll do#
- Complete two years of instructor-led classroom and lab training through a certified John Deere Tech program.
- Assist senior technicians with basic service tasks, equipment disassembly, and component reconditioning.
- Obtain certifications in Electrical, Hydraulics, and Service ADVISOR™ training.
- Maintain accurate documentation of diagnostics and repairs on work orders.
- Develop an understanding of service department operations, labor efficiencies, and dealer business systems.
- Perform pre-delivery set-up and inspections of new equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment while operating necessary tools and equipment.
What you'll need#
- Planning to attend or currently enrolled in a Certified John Deere Ag Tech Program at a participating college.
- Ability to meet the minimum hourly requirements for on-site work at the dealership.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Interest in developing technical skills related to mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering concepts.
- Understanding of service department operations and labor efficiency goals is preferred.
